1) The overall mood for this chapter is depressing, due to the wet weather and Jesse's thoughts and feelings. Even though they were at Teribithia, which normally lifted both of their moods up, Jesse felt uneasy. He somehow sensed that something would go wrong, but was afraid to admit as he was scared that Leslie would laugh at him. Jess felt hesitant about his feelings and chose to keep mum about it.
2) The overall mood was happy till Jesse learnt that Leslie is dead. .Jess was spending the time of his like with Miss Edmunds, oblivious to the reason that explains why the expresssion of worried and concern on the faces awaited for him at home.
Reason for the title "The Evil Spell"
Terabithia was so called "cursed" by the heavy downpour which affected the whole mood of the chapter. It caused Jesse's mood to change, as he did not expect himself to be afraid of something Leslie is not any afraid of. The rain had also somehow caused Leslie's death on the following chapter.
Foreshadowing :
The evil spell hinted that something bad will happen at the later part of the story. The setting and the mood of the character caused the whole chapter to be very still and scary.
The description of the setting like the icy mud sending thrills of pain up their legs and "The hungry waters leaping the bank, daring them to try to confine it". The last sentence saying that no matter how high the creek came, Leslie would not be afraid, still wanting to cross it, suggests that something will happen. A high creek can cause her to lose her life but she was not afraid.
These descriptions add to the feeling the readers experience before the tragedy strikes.
Reason for the title "The Perfect Day"
The most literal reason is that Jesse spends the entire day at the art museum with the teacher he has a crush on, Miss Edmunds. But the"perfect day" ultimately becomes the worst day of his life.
Foreshadowing :
It is impossible for the author to write about a chapter of the book too perfect. Thus something bad is bound to happen towards the end of the chapter, which is in this chapter, Leslie's death.
The expression of his family members when he walked into the room hinted that something bad happened.
The starting of the chapter mentioned that Jesse was thinking about his fear and wanted Leslie to teach him how to swim, fearing that he would fall into the river on the way to Terabithia. This sort of foreshadows what would happen to Leslie and how did it happen.
